As a new graduate I turned that freelancing work into a full-time job as editorial assistant at Homes and Living Magazine. I realised a dream when I jumped across to news reporting as a journalist at the Fremantle Gazette before being snapped up by Perth’s leading independent weekly newspapers, Post Newspapers in 1999.

I won the first of my awards here the following year; a Perth Press Club Award for Consistent Excellence in Journalism. A stint at the Geraldton Guardian followed before I moved back to Perth as a media consultant in Government media liaison.

I answered the call back to journalism and re-joined Post Newspapers, leaving again eventually to care for my daughter and to work as a freelance journalist. I won the WA Media and Entertainment Alliance Best Freelancer award three consecutive years 2014 to 2016 inclusive. In addition, for more than a decade I have been thrilled to nurture new journalists as a tutor in journalism at Curtin University.

Photography has always a been a passion and I’ve taken images to accompany articles where possible. However, more recently I’ve taken it to the next level; moving increasingly to black and white imagery and exhibiting pieces in exhibitions in Sydney, Melbourne and New York. I’m looking forward to my first solo exhibition, the Jetty Series, which will be in Perth later in 2022.
