Journalism
There’s a distinct art to news writing; finding an angle, securing and conducting interviews, researching, transcribing and writing in that crisp, precise inverted pyramid that delivers the news quickly and accurately.
And journalists know that the very best press releases are produced by other journalists, because we know intimately how news writing works. Long form journalism or feature writing is my passion though, and every semester I tutored at Curtin University has been like a refresher course in feature writing excellence. The topics I write and photograph are broad ranging and include conservation, human interest, human rights, education and disability. My stories are both commissioned and self-driven projects and specific articles include the devastation that wild dogs have inflicted on Western Australia’s station country, the value of public versus private school education and disability inequity in education. I’m a member of the WA Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance.
